Skin phototype: a first estimate

Answer ten short questions about how your skin reacts to the sun and get an estimated type on the Fitzpatrick scale. Everything is worked out in your own browser: your answers and your photo are not sent anywhere.

This is a guide, not a diagnosis and not a replacement for a doctor's advice. An estimate from a photo depends on the light and the camera, so it shows only an estimated range.

Step 1. How your skin reacts to the sun

Choose one answer for each question.

What colour are your eyes?
What is your natural hair colour?
What colour is your skin where the sun never reaches it (the inside of the arm, for example)?
How many freckles do you have on skin that has no tan?
What happens to your skin after two hours of midday sun without protection?
How dark does your tan get after a few days in the sun?
How often do you tan?
How sensitive is the skin of your face to the sun?
How often is your face in the sun in summer?
How does your skin colour change from winter to the end of summer?

Step 2, optional. Skin colour from a photo

Pick a photo of yourself in daylight, with no filter and no makeup on the cheek. The file stays on your device and is not sent anywhere.

An estimate from a photo depends on the light: it is only a range.
